WARRENDALE, PA, Aug. 4, 2009 -- Siemens Water Technologies received a contract from Wuxi Water Supply General Company in China's Jiangsu Province to supply a turnkey water treatment solution for Wuxi Zhongqiao Water Supply Co., Ltd. Centerpiece of the solution will be a Memcor ultra filtration membrane system. It will produce 150,000 m³ per day high quality drinking water for the residents of Wuxi, making it one of the largest membrane-based drinking-water treatment projects in China. The order volume amounts to 40 million Renminbi ( approx. 4.2 million Euro). The plant is scheduled to start up at the beginning of 2010.

Memcor ultrafiltration membrane systems."This project demonstrates Siemens' capabilities to provide solutions that meet the need of cost effective and reliable technologies in China," says Henrik Alt, responsible for Siemens Water Technologies' China business. "This project will make an important contribution to further improve drinking water quality for Wuxi's citizens."

The Memcor ultra filtration membranes provided by Siemens have a physical barrier to remove suspended solids, microbes, bacteria, viruses and turbidity without the need for chemical pretreatment. The membrane system will produce excellent and consistent water quality in a very compact footprint, while offering cost competitiveness compared to more traditional methods of treatment. This system has been proven in numerous drinking water applications all over the world.

As one of the two tap water resources of Wuxi city, Taihu Lake has long suffered from discharge of industrial and municipal wastewater. The holistic solution from Siemens Water Technologies will make a strong contribution to improving the quality of life for Wuxi citizens by improving the quality and reliability of tap water.
