ERLANGER, KY, May 31, 2006 -- Jon McClean, president of UV disinfection company Aquionics Inc., has been promoted to Divisional Managing Director (UV Companies), taking overall control of all three Halma UV companies: Aquionics Inc. in the United States, Berson UV-techniek in The Netherlands, and Hanovia Ltd. in Great Britain.
McClean brings a wealth of technical expertise to the post. He was only appointed president of Aquionics last year, and before that he was Managing Director of Hanovia Limited in Great Britain. During his six years with Hanovia he developed new markets for the company's UV disinfection and de-chloramination technology in the pool and drinking water sectors. He also won the Queen's Award for Enterprise, Britain's most prestigious award for business performance.
These successes, coupled with the immediate impact he has had on Aquionics since taking over last year, led directly to his promotion.
"Our aim is to increase the penetration of the UV companies across the wide range of applications where our market-leading technology has real advantage," said McClean. "We already have an established presence in North America, Europe, South-East Asia and Australasia which provides us with reference-grade installations and a strong base on which to grow our business."
McClean has 20 years of experience in the water industry, ranging from municipal and water reuse applications to specialized ultra pure industrial uses. He holds an MBA and a B.Sc. in Physics from Imperial College in London (Great Britain).
As an innovator in ultraviolet water treatment and disinfection, Aquionics (www.aquionics.com) and the Halma Group divisions have been providing the preeminent UV technologies since 1924. Aquionics is based in Erlanger, KY.
Based in Amersham, Buckinghamshire, England, Halma PLC (www.halma.com) businesses range from smoke detectors to ophthalmic lenses, but protection and detection are the common ties at its nearly 50 subsidiaries. These companies make products in six decentralized sectors: fire and gas detection (smoke, heat, and gas detectors); ophthalmic optics and specialist technology (ophthalmic lenses and specialist products); process safety (plant protection devices); elevator electronics (such as door sensors); water leak detection and UV treatment; and high-power electrical resistors. Each sector has its own independent management. Halma operates businesses worldwide, but Europe accounts for more than half of sales.
