SAN DIEGO, CA, Dec. 21, 2006 -- New location. Growing possibilities. That's the overall theme in 2007 for SonTek/YSI Inc.. Not only will the business be celebrating 15 years in San Diego, but on Jan. 3, employees will have an expansive and contemporary new facility to call home.
The newly constructed, 20,000 sq. ft. building will house a growing Research and Development unit, as well as provide additional space for its humming manufacturing center. The site is only about one mile away from its previous location.
An official ribbon cutting ceremony will be held 10:45 a.m. Jan. 3, and is open to the community of San Diego. Expected to attend are local and regional government officials, as well as long-time friends and customers of SonTek/YSI, to include representatives from the Scripps Institute of Oceanography, the United States Geological Survey, and the Marine Technology Society.
Brief remarks will be made by YSI CEO Rick Omlor. YSI Inc. is the parent company of SonTek/YSI, and is located in Yellow Springs, OH.
Leading the official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will be SonTek Founder and now Director of Research and Development, Ramon Cabrera. Joining him will be employee/owner David Shumway, who is officially recognized as SonTek's longest-term employee.
SonTek builds acoustic Doppler technology that can measure the speed of water in almost any environment. This could be in a hydraulics laboratory at a university, for coastal ocean monitoring of waves, currents and tides, and for monitoring flow in rivers, streams and canals.
