NORWALK, CT, Feb. 16, 2006 -- According to a soon-to-be-released technical market research report, "Water Recycling and Reuse: Technologies and Materials" (RGB-331), from BCC Research, the total value of the U.S. water recycling and reuse industry was $2.2 billion in 2005. By 2010 total market revenue will reach $3.3 billion, at an average annual growth rate (AAGR) of 8.8%.
An overall market revenue growth rate of 8.8% reflects the fact that significant innovation is still occurring, making technologies more accessible to a greater number of potential buyers, as well as the fact that the underlying market-the wastewater recycling and reuse market-is heading into a replacement phase.
Landscape and agricultural irrigation make up the largest shares of total water reuse. That trend reflects the overall trend in water use-that is, irrigation makes up a large percentage of total water use in the U.S. Those applications will continue to grow through 2010 (at 12.4% and 10.3%, respectively) though the industrial market will grow the most quickly, at 14.2%.
The amount of water reused in the U.S. across all applications will grow at an annual rate of 11.1% through 2010. Droughts, stringent EPA regulations on waste and potable water, increased public awareness, and upcoming replacements of current wastewater systems will largely influence the growth of the recycling and reuse industry in the coming years.
