SINGAPORE, Sept. 30, 2010 -- Mainboard-listed United Envirotech Ltd., a leading membrane-based water and wastewater treatment solutions provider, is pleased to announce that it has completed Asia's largest underground municipal Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) plant in Guangzhou City. The contract, worth a total value of RMB264 million, has a design capacity of 100,000m³ per day. With an underground depth of 20 metres, the Jing Xi MBR plant takes up the smallest ground area among all wastewater treatment plants in China, approximately 1/10 of a traditional water and wastewater treatment plant.
According to Guangzhou Daily on 28 September 2010, Mr. Zhang Guang Ning, Guangzhou City Party Secretary and Mr Wang Qing Liang, Guangzhou City Mayor, emphasized during their plant visit on 27 September 2010, the importance of wastewater treatment in the development of Guangzhou. Mr Zhang commented that: "The Jing Xi MBR water and wastewater treatment plant is an engineering feat which is most suitable for a densely populated city like Guangzhou. It takes up minimal ground area and uses advanced technology that has little impact on residents living in close proximity. This technology should be used in all of Guangzhou city water infrastructure upgrades."
Many residents have come forth to express their appreciation for the clean water flowing through the river, which has beautified their city and improved their quality of life.
The Jing Xi MBR plant is selected as a showcase of advanced water treatment technology during the China Water Forum, organised by China Water Net, to be held from 11 to 13 October 2010. The Plant will host site visit by over 300 delegates from various parts of China attending the Forum. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of United Envirotech, Dr. Lin Yucheng, elaborated that: "The Jing Xi plant is testament to UEL's strong project execution and technological expertise in membrane-based water treatment. We have surpassed expectations of stakeholders by completing Asia's largest underground wastewater treatment plant within a short period of 9 months. Using advanced MBR technology, the compact plant is energy efficient and produces good quality treated water. This revolutionary project marks an important milestone for UEL."
On a separate project, UEL has completed and commenced operations for Phase I of Hegang wastewater treatment cum recycling plant, located in Heilongjiang Province, People's Republic of China (PRC). The plant has a treatment capacity of 50,000m³ per day and was completed on 27th September 2010, 3 days ahead of schedule. This BOT project is the Group's first Water Investment project with dual service components and revenue streams. UEL will receive revenue from the government for treating 50,000m³ of wastewater daily and will in turn sell 30,000m³ of recycled water to chemical plants in the nearby industry park.
"The successful completion of Jing Xi and Hegang plants has affirmed our position as the leading membrane- based water and wastewater treatment solutions provider in China. We have established ourselves as a reliable and consistent operator to the local municipal government and have received the support of the local community. We will continue our expansion in the municipal water and wastewater treatment market in China and we expect to secure more projects in time to come," continues Dr. Lin.
