• First 'AquaFence' equipped town in U.S. gets prepared for future flood fighting
MT. VERNON, WA, Sept. 4, 2007 -- The first full installation of AquaFence, the unique Norwegian flood protection system will take place during a demonstration and installation day in Mt. Vernon, Washington State this September. As the first town in the USA to choose the revolutionary AquaFence system, Mt. Vernon's state-of-the-art flood fighting arsenal is now ready to be shown to the rest of the country.
AquaFence is the most flexible semi-mobile flood protection system ever devised. This proven system is in use in locations across Europe and its introduction to the USA may prove vital to struggling flood-hit local authorities, businesses and utility companies.
"When the Skagit River threatens the Mt. Vernon Downtown district it takes hundreds of volunteers and city workers 12-15 hours to set up a sandbag wall. AquaFence needs just a small team of workers to set-up a far superior flood defence in about 1/3 of the time," says Duane Clocksin Director of North American Operations for AquaFence.
AquaFence is a patented transportable flood protection barrier that can rapidly be put into place when there is a danger of flooding. After the flood event it is easily dismantled, stored and made ready for the next flood.
AquaFence could make sandbagging obsolete. It is deployed in a fraction of the time at a fraction of the cost of a traditional sandbag wall. AquaFence can be used over and over, whereas sandbags are used once, then become a disposal problem. Often contaminated during flooding sandbags are in many cases being classified as hazardous waste, which can be costly to dispose of. With AquaFence absolutely no waste is generated.
The date of the demonstration and installation day is to be confirmed. It will take place along Mount Vernon's Main Street stretching from Division St. to Kincaid St.
