MURRAY HILL, NJ, Aug. 18, 2004 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Intervent®, the new food safety technology and consulting arm of the BOC Group, is providing food and beverage manufacturers with a single source for addressing their plants' food safety needs.

Intervent offers proven ozone and ultraviolet (UV) light technologies specifically designed for use in food and beverage plants, and also provides HACCP and food science consulting services.

Intervent is headed by Mark DiMaggio, BOC business manager for food safety markets. DiMaggio has more than 15 years experience developing and marketing food processing and pathogen reduction technologies for the food industry. He is a member of the International Ozone Association and is on the group's food treatment task force. He is also a past member of the National Turkey Federation's technical and regulatory committee. His prior roles with BOC have been as director, business development -food safety markets, and product manager -- food safety equipment.

"Intervent focuses on a key area of concern to food and beverage processors -- food safety. Intervent offers processors a range of validated technologies that are integrated seamlessly into a plant's total environment to treat atmospheres, food, food contact surfaces, including beverage bottles, and processing fluids for protection against pathogens and spoilage organisms. We also facilitate processors' compliance with USDA regulations by evaluating their plants' risk factors, incorporating technologies to lower that risk and assisting with USDA acknowledgement of their HACCP and GMP plans," DiMaggio, said.

"These consulting services, combined with Intervent's antimicrobial technologies provide a powerful weapon for food processors to meet HACCP performance thresholds and federal directives for Listeria and E.coli," DiMaggio said.

Ed Garcia, vice president, ventures for BOC's Process Gas Solutions line of business, said, "Intervent will be able to draw upon BOC's financial, marketplace resources and its years of experience in providing solutions for the food processing industry to help processors reduce pathogen levels and spoilage organisms in their plants."

"BOC is a leading global supplier of food and beverage grade gases and state-of-the-art food safety and cryogenic freezing and chilling technologies. We are a leading provider of innovative solutions for the industry's processing and food safety concerns," Garcia said.

The BOC Group, the worldwide industrial gases, vacuum technologies and distribution services company, serves two million customers in more than 50 countries. It employs 44,500 people and had annual sales of over $7 billion in 2003. Further information about The BOC Group can be found online at www.boc.com
