The metering system’s fluidics are contained within a space-saving protective enclosure suitable for wall mounting.
The metering system uses two valveless pump heads driven by a single, variable speed drive. One pump head is the primary pump which meters straight hypo, while the second pump head is plumbed to remove any air or chlorine gas which is a result of outgassing, from the inlet side of the pump. This prevents any possibility of losing prime due to gas-lock. It also allows the system to self-prime from a completely dry condition against pressures up to 125psi.
“Many manufacturer’s claim to have a low maintenance pump that can handle the outgassing of 12-15% sodium hypochlorite without losing prime, but few if any can live up to those claims,” Boufis said. “I installed Chloritrol systems at several well sites, to put the units to the task. After months of use and abuse, I have seen little, if any, need for recalibration nor have we experienced any downtime.”
Because the Chloritrol will self-prime from a dry condition, it does not require a flooded suction and can be located above the supply vessel. Changing from one hypo tote to another is accomplished quickly and efficiently, since there is no need to manually prime following the change.
The variable speed drive is controlled by FMI’s C100A Variable Speed Controller. It is designed to electronically control the metering system’s flow rate from a sensor, analyzer, PLC or other control device which can provide a standard 4-20 mA control signal.
All of the metering system’s fluidics are contained within a space-saving protective enclosure measuring 15” x 13” x 6” and weighing only 16 lbs. Suitable for wall mounting, the system can free up several square feet of floor space typically required for other hypo metering systems. In addition, it operates on 115 vAC and requires about the same amount of power as a 75W light bulb.
