May 5, 2015 -- PUB, Singapore's national water agency, and SUEZ Environnement, a global specialist in resources management, signed an agreement on Monday, May 4, to collaborate on three research projects relating to used water treatment, stormwater management and automated meter reading (AMR). The project is supported by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB).
The agreement was signed by PUB Chief Technology Officer Harry Seah and SUEZ Environnement Senior Vice President in charge of Innovation Paul-Joël Derian at the seminar, "Singapore and France: Sharing Ideas and Expertise for Smarter and Sustainable City Solutions," organized by the Embassy of France in Singapore. The event was officially witnessed by the city-state's Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan and the French Ambassador of Singapore Benjamin Dubertret.
Under the partnership, both parties will work together to use information and communication technologies and analytical software solution to develop a smart water grid. This includes the development of a decision support tool for stormwater management and AMR to track water consumption and potentially induce proactive consumer behavior toward water conservation. Both parties will also partner on a pilot project to develop an energy-efficient used water treatment process by integrating smart monitoring and advanced control strategies.
SUEZ Environnement is a founding sponsor for the Singapore International Water Week, the global platform to share and co-create innovative water solutions. Derian has also been a member of Singapore's Environment and Water Technologies (EWT) International Advisory Panel (IAP) since 2013. This panel advises the city-state on critical issues, emerging global trends and new research areas in the water sector. The projects will be supported by the TechPioneer grant, which encourages water companies to label Singapore as a living laboratory so that cutting-edge technologies can be tested and commercialized in a real-life environment. EDB will administer the grant.
