MILWAUKEE, Wis., Sept. 30, 2002 -- Badger Meter Inc. on Monday announced it has expanded its line of automatic meter reading (AMR) products with the release of its new Orion® series, a radio frequency(RF) drive-by system for the water utility market.
AMR systems enable utilities to read meters by simply driving down the street. Orion utilizes RF bubble-up (broadcast) technology, which eliminates the need for FCC licensing by the utility. The key features available with the Orion system are leak detection and route mapping. These features, combined with Orion's fast, accurate readings and ease of installation, make the product suitable for water utilities of all sizes.
"The Orion system is an important step in our connectivity strategy in which we offer our customers a choice of AMR technologies to meet their unique needs," said Richard A. Meeusen, president and chief executive officer. "With 60,000 water utilities in the United States, there isn't a one size fits all product."
According to Kenneth E. Smith, vice president - sales and marketing, "By offering both our new Orion product and the radio frequency AMR products manufactured by Itron, Inc., Badger has a much more comprehensive line of AMR products."
Badger Meter's Recordall® Transmitter Register (RTR®) forms the foundation for the variety of technologies that can connect easily to the company's basic water meters, thereby enabling Badger Meter to offer the best product for each customer's particular application needs.
Badger Meter is a marketer and manufacturer of flow measurement and control technology, developed both internally and with other companies, as well as the leader in providing digital connectivity to leading AMR technologies.
