August 29, 2002 -- Mechanical engineer and inventor Lloyd Weaver of Harpswell, Maine announced Thursday that he has filed for intellectual property protection on a green energy invention of a high solids methane composting system for quickly converting municipal sludge and agricultural manures into methane gas and saleable compost in one step.
Weaver said, "I'm very excited to begin the process of turning my proprietary aerobic sludge composting technology I developed into a green energy technology that makes useful methane energy and compost in one step. The new patent filing is only the beginning of a plan to obtain intellectual protection on other advanced technologies in the energy area including my PCPG (pulverized coal pressurized gasifier) filings."
The composter is designed to convert 32% solids materials directly into methane energy and saleable compost in a few days, and the coal gasifiers are designed to solve the vexing "process-block" problems associated with achieving cost effective IGCC power systems.
Weaver's goal is to create the first market leaders in these two fields through his licensees.
"With the problems of manure and sludge wastes, there is now an awareness that we need to solve these problems close to the source (methane systems have no odor problems), and compact high solids methane composting makes that possible at most facilities, even city facilities were space is at a premium," Weaver said.
"In regards to PCPG, since drought conditions are threatening to limit power generation, and since IGCC methods working at up to 50% efficiency can use about half the water as conventional coal technology and are much more efficient, these are both potentially important inventions," he continued.
Weaver is a mechanical engineer and professional inventor who specializes in energy related inventions. Weaver has also filed for patent protection on his High Solids Methane Generating Composter, Pulverized Coal Pressurized Gasifier, and Pulverized Coal Pressurized Gasifier System.
