Summary

Safe drinking water is essential for human life, and treated wastewater is vital for public health. However, water and wastewater systems are increasingly vulnerable to cyberattacks, prompting recognition of this threat to critical infrastructure by agencies in the US, EU, UK, Australia, and beyond. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) highlights an ongoing risk of malicious cyber activity targeting operational technology devices in these sectors. As a response to these escalating threats, OT users and regulators are turning to IT for guidance and solutions to enhance water security.
