MIAMI, FL, Jan. 20, 2015 -- The Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (WASD) has awarded Woolpert, a national architecture, engineering and geospatial firm, a five-year contract with one five-year option to review, modify and develop the capacity management, operation and maintenance (CMOM) plans required by an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region IV consent decree.
Woolpert will work with WASD, one of the largest public water and wastewater utilities in the country serving more than 2 million citizens, to ensure that the programs are consistent with EPA's guidance and are completed within the specific deadlines of the consent decree. Further, the plans will consider facilities' vulnerability to climate change impacts, such as sea-level rise, storm surges, wind, and flooding.
The plans and programs outlined in EPA's consent decree include the following:
- Information management system
- Geographic information system
- Sewer system asset management
- Gravity sewer system operation and maintenance
- Pump station operations and preventative maintenance
- Force main operations, preventative maintenance and assessment/rehabilitation
- Force main criticality assessment and prioritization
- Force main rehabilitation and replacement
- Wastewater treatment plant operations and maintenance
