• Expanded nuclear capabilities provide valves for vitrification process
DALLAS, TX, Oct. 20, 2008 -- Flowserve Corp., a leading global provider of flow control products and services for the global infrastructure markets, announced that its Cookeville, Tennessee plant has achieved Nuclear Quality Assurance Level 1 (NQA-1) qualification.
This qualification enables Flowserve's valves to be used in the cleanup, or remediation, of contaminated facilities. The contaminants are collected and pumped to facilities where the vitrification process concentrates and fuses the radioactive materials into impermeable glassy solids, which can then be stored safely for thousands of years as the isotopes decay and ultimately become harmless.
"Flowserve is proud to play a part in protecting and restoring environmental cleanliness," said Jim McGeehin, general manager Flowserve Flow Control Division, Cookeville. "Cookeville's NQA-1 capabilities are a well-matched complement to the full ASME Section III (N-Stamp) capabilities of our Raleigh facility. Flowserve delivers high-quality valves to the growing radioactive waste remediation market."
Flowserve Corp. is one of the world's leading providers of fluid motion and control products and services.
