JACKSONVILLE, FL, April 17, 2006 -- Commercial Insulation of Jacksonville, FL, provides insulation services to many customers in Northeast Florida, including the water industry. It was, and still is, common to install backflow preventers outside and above ground throughout the area but, because it does freeze in much of Florida, it was common to wrap them in insulation. Mike Devine, president of Commercial Insulation, provided that service
In 1986, one of Devine's customers asked him if, instead of wrapping a device to protect it from freezing, he could build a box around it to protect it. Devine's response was the Hot Box®, an insulated and heated "box" to protect the backflow device from freezing. It was also the "better mousetrap" from which a new business was born. In addition to freeze protection, the enclosure offered vandal protection, easy access to testing and repairing the valves and a cosmetic solution to the ugly industrial appearance of bare or wrapped valves.
Since 1986, the Hot Box line has expanded in many directions. It offers many different configurations of the product from simple, functional aluminum and fiberglass enclosures to "rocks" and even "tree stumps" that blend in completely with the environment. Although still closely identified with the water industry, Hot Box products also cover compressors, various kinds of pumps and other objects that are outside, above ground and need protection.
In 2004 Hot Box was sold to CDR Systems Group in Ormond Beach, FL. Bud McGrane, president of CDR Systems Group, has maintained the high quality, diversity of product offering and customer service through factory contact and professional representation that have made Hot Box a standard of a growing industry. His commitment to the industry and the product line is shown by his expansion of manufacturing to the West Coast to better serve the customer.
