Rain causes second discharge at Niagara Falls

NIAGARA FALLS, NY, AUG 17, 2017 -- New York's Department of Environmental Conservation say a second discharge at Niagara Falls in two months is believed to be rain-related.

Buffalo News reports a sewer overflow caused water at the falls to become discolored in the U.S. side. Last month, water at the base of the Falls became black and smelly.

In a news briefing Wednesday, DEC Deputy Commissioner Kenneth Lynch said heavy rains likely caused an overflow at a local wastewater treatment plant. The DEC is investigating the incident to determine any connection to the July discharge from the same facility.
