pH/ORP controller

The new MicroTPH pH/ORP Controller just released by HF scientific has control features designed to facilitate the efficient use of chemicals and reagents. It comes in a rugged housing suitable for wall, panel, or pipe mounting. The user can select on/off, proportional pulse length, proportional pulse frequency, or PI (proportional integral) control. Proportional integral control allows the user to fine-tune the unit to prevent overshoot and provide tight control. The controller features two-point pH calibration with automatic or manual buffer recognition of a wide range of buffer sets. Users may select asymmetrical input for standard applications or symmetrical input for applications with high electrical noise.

Check valves

The SWC series Swing Check Valve from Crispin Valves offers an AWWA C-508-01 solution for arduous line applications, including sewage and slurry. Designed with a heavy-duty pivot shaft, it is ideal for installations where back pressure can rapidly reach higher values. It accepts air cushion and oil control devices, and comes standard with a rubber disc seat, Buna-N rubber O-rings, and stainless steel body seats and end caps. Because the valve has a flow area that is greater than or equal to the nominal valve size, the Crispin Valve has a lower head loss characteristic than any other swing check valve. It can also be mounted horizontally or vertically, and maintained without removal from the line. In addition, optional dashpots and cushions offer control over the opening and closing speeds of the valve, which can be very helpful in eliminating down-line surges and valve wear.

Odor neutralizer

While many odor control techniques merely mask unpleasant odors, independent testing shows that EcosorbRegistered Natural Organic Odor Neutralizer breaks down and eliminates harmful gases, including hydrogen sulfide, sulfur dioxide, ammonia, ethyl mercaptan and methyl mercaptan. A broad spectrum odor neutralizer, the product is used in a variety of settings, including wastewater treatment plants. The odor neutralizer is typically diluted with water and sprayed into odorous areas in an atomized mist. The droplets electrostatically attract the molecules that form the odor, then capture and neutralize them, diminishing their volatility until they are reduced to their lowest possible form. Feed systems are custom-designed for each facility. Typically, they can be installed quickly and require minimal capital outlay, compared to more complex odor control systems.

Sewer grinder

The Sewer ChewerRegistered Severe-Duty Grinder from Yeomans can be used for solids size reduction in the municipal sludge handling process. The grinder's twin shaft arrangement and patented cutter design have low head-loss characteristics. A variety of motor and mounting options are available to configure the grinder to most any installation requirement. TEFC gearmotors are standard; Explosion-Proof and Submersible (IP68, FM Listed) are also available. Standard NEMA 4X controllers provide digital keypad-type operator interface for user-configurable control and operation.

Nitrification system

The Borough of Elverson, PA, has installed FBC's Bio2-BlocRegistered system to control ammonia during cold weather. With ammonia influent averaging 30 mg/L, the borough's plant effluent contained 15 mg/L, far in excess of the 4 mg/L allowed by the NPDES permit. Working with consultants, the company provided a system that can nitrify the ammonia load even as temperatures drop to wintertime levels. The system was installed in mid-March and the borough's effluent met permit limits within 10 days. Performance has improved even more with the advent of warmer spring temperatures. The system uses a patented floating design to harbor and nurture nitrifying organisms in cold weather environments, and is based on the performance of the Submerged Attached Growth Reactor concept.

Metering pumps

LMI Milton Roy has launched a new compact, high-pressure metering pump within its M Series line. Using a mechanically actuated diaphragm design, the motor-driven pump can provide dosing of acids, bases, chlorinated products, coagulants and other chemicals. In addition, the pumps are capable of handling difficult-to-dispense liquids such as polymers. Motors can be controlled using either a pulse or 4-20 mA process signal. This feature allows users the option of interfacing with PLCs, SCADA systems and other process controllers. The pumps have a maximum capacity of 53 gph and a maximum pressure rating of 180 psi.
