Click here to enlarge imageThe basic components of the series consist of the meter housing, interchangeable measuring elements for high and low flow, a high flow valve assembly and sealed direct reading registers. The standard head assembly from Badger's Turbo Series meter line is used for the high flow side of the meter. It features a "floating rotor" design that virtually eliminates bearing wear. The performance of the Turbo element results in the Compound Series having the highest continuous flow rate values in the compound meter marketplace.
The standard chamber assembly from the Recordall® Disc Series line is incorporated for low flow measurement requirements. Result: no custom measuring element components are required in the new compound meters. All meter sizes are also provided with a ¾ inch drain plug and a test plug as standard equipment.
For maintenance, the valve assembly can be removed as a complete assembly with the compound meter still in the line if desired. The steps are simple: Remove the cover assembly bolts (the cover assembly houses the low flow chamber assembly) and lift off the assembly, exposing the complete valve assembly. Now the valve assembly can be unthreaded and lifted out of the meter body. Drop the new valve assembly into the housing, thread into position and after reinstalling the cover assembly, the meter is back in business.
The new Compound Series meters meet and exceed AWWA Standard C702. The inlet end of the meter housing contains a "plenum" design feature which conditions the inlet flow that is directed through the internal bypass in the meter and into the low flow, positive displacement disc meter chamber assembly.
The conditioning that takes place with this unique design permits the elimination of the "trigger valve" component that is typically used to close off the low flow side of a compound meter when a high flow condition takes place in the application. An additional and important benefit of this flow profile conditioning is the significant improvement in crossover accuracy performance.
AWWA standards require a minimum accuracy of 90 percent at the crossover flow range of the meter. Most compound meters on the market advertise this accuracy to be as high as 95 percent. Badger's new 6 inch meter meets or exceeds the 95 percent level, and on the 2 in., 3 in. and 4 in. meter sizes, the minimum crossover accuracy specification is 97 percent.
According to Badger, a significant portion of the units perform well above the 98 percent level, literally eliminating crossover accuracy as an issue in performance.
The Compound Series meter line is designed for connectivity to all of Badger's MRT products including Itron® ERTs®, Trace®, and Dialog®. The interface is through two Recordall Transmitter Registers (RTRs®) and a Summator/Splitter unit.
