LEEDS, UK, July 25, 2009 -- Despite the current economic situation, the Lanes Group has invested in still more advanced technology, with the purchase of a custom-built DISAB Centurion High Performance Vacuum unit at a cost of £270,000.

The Swedish-made Centurion has been added to Lanes' advanced plant fleet because of its high work flow rate: the unit vacuums at a super fast 8500 cubic feet per minute, compared with the 800 cfm operation of standard jet vac tankers.

Lanes' new DISAB Centurion High Performance vacuumation unit. This monster machine can pull 10 tons of material through its 200mm diameter hose system in just 10 minutes, to fill its capacious 12 cubic meter tank. It operates pneumatically by vacuum or positive pressure and the boom system is remotely controlled from up to 50-meters away.

Lanes bought the vacuumation unit to manage an existing contract for lime powder removal at one of Europe's largest steel producers.

Lime is used to remove impurities during steel refining processes but excess powder and spillages have to be removed, and Lanes' Centurion does the job both quickly and cost effectively.

Ian Sullivan, manager of Lanes' north east depot, explains that the Centurion has potential for many other sectors: "Because it is capable of removing a huge variety of waste streams, from powders, ash and granular materials to sludges, aggregates and ore, the Centurion is perfect for a whole range of industries like steel, cement, power, heating, paper and pulp -- as well as wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations and pretty much any industrial tanks."

But the machine's capabilities do not end there, according to Ian: "It will also make short work of vacuuming earth, ballast, stone and rubble, so is ideal for, for instance, rail or highways related projects. Since it is equally effective for both wet and dry materials as well, its capabilities are extensive.

He adds "With its high tip capacity, Centurion lets us bulk up the waste on site and remove it in one shipment too. Ultimately that means less time spent on site and significant cost savings for our customers."

With its eye-catching pink livery, the Lanes' Centurion with its team of expert technicians is available to tackle projects anywhere in the UK. More information is available from any Lanes' depot on 0800 526488.

Lanes for Drains, part of the Lanes Group plc, has 20 depots across the UK and is the UK's largest independent drainage specialist.
